FREMONT, CA: The OXIS Energy partners with Bye Aerospace to create a popular and sophisticated Lithium-Sulfur battery cell for the high-voltage battery pack system to for future Bye electric aircraft. Li-S battery technology provides essential advantages to aviation, and the greater power density needed for such aircraft will be achieved by these cells.
OXIS has already proved through field trials in Europe that Li-S has brought about a substantial increase in simulated flight duration relative to Lithium NMC. By conducting a further sequence of tests, the solution is expected to provide a reliable indication of the efficiency of OXIS Li-S.

A key measure of OXIS’ suitability is to be able to consistently produce cells in excess of 400 Wh/kg, which are already undergoing evaluation. OXIS expects to achieve 500 Wh/kg by early 2020. They are over 50% lighter than the current Li-ion cell and battery systems, with the winning formula of a high energy cell at the power required.
