Embedded systems have been indispensable to the explosive growth of IoT technology over the last few years.

FREMONT, CA: The level of penetration that IoT technologies have been able to achieve within a short span of time is remarkable. IoT devices have found industrial, as well as domestic applications. Smart homes revolve around a system of IoT-backed devices. Similarly, manufacturing industries are being managed and run with the help of IoT technology. Besides, every sector that requires data is banking on IoT end-points. All of these applications have attained critical value in today’s time. However, the powerful technology driving IoT is not discussed often. The advancements in embedded technology have determined IoT technology's course of evolution. This article discusses the role of embedded systems in enhancing the prospects of IoT technology.

Embedded systems have enabled sleeker models for every electronic device that requires processing capabilities. Conventionally, processors used to be bulky. This limited the portability and utility of devices. However, embedded technology has made processing chips smaller, enabling their deployment in IoT devices. IoT devices need to be optimally designed, and size can become a significant factor. Thus, small physical sizes have resulted in efficient sensors.

Compared to the capabilities of a conventional operating system, an advanced operating system built with embedded technology can carry out tasks more consistently. In the case of IoT devices, the dynamic of lag becomes crucial. Thus, reliability and consistency in IoT devices are become crucial and are derived from embedded systems. The lack of competency in processing can result in major disruptions in completing tasks and transmitting data. Besides, IoT devices can leverage improved connectivity only when embedded systems are upgraded, and faster computing facilities are adopted.

Embedded systems and IoT technology are closely related, and improvements in the former can result in further advancement of the latter. As IoT devices permeate every sphere of life, embedded technology will continue fueling the evolution from the background.
