Trends that Need Attention in Wireless Networking Technology

In the coming year, some interesting trends in wireless networking technology includes an upsurge in millimeter waves, the promising potential for end-to-end network analytics and, most importantly, the continuing development of 5G services.

FREMONT, CA: With time, networks are executed predominantly via software with less specialized hardware. The possession of flexibility and adaptability are the key drivers, especially with the rise of 5G. Tracking the trends of wireless networking is an exciting task as the technologies are ever-changing and innovative.

1. Millimeter Waves:

Frequencies above 30 GHz and a portion of the unlicensed spectrum of 60 GHz are being utilized gradually. The fixed point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and mesh services are evolving along with 5G services to use the bandwidth much broadly.

2. Built-in Performance Evaluation Tools:

There exists a gap to fill in the area of performance measurement of a given link between a Wi-Fi client and an AP. With a benchmarking server aligned with AP in place to eliminate the need to go across another link and into a server, resulting in the introduction of variables is necessary.

3. System-Independent, Edge-to-Core Analytics

Analytics that function across the entire network, and across products from multiple vendors—end-to-end analytics—is much awaited. Analytics based on increasingly on AI and machine learning is the trend that is looked out for the most.

4. One-Stop Wireless Security as a Service:

Although the range of potential threats remains vast, an end-to-end cloud service is the best solution to target development. With organizations having a solid, ironclad security policy in place, the trend can be encouraged.

5. Carrier-Independent Services:

Carrier independent services boost performance, reliability, and availability while substantially reducing the costs; they will also provide a vast platform for various other services. It will reduce the chaos of many IPs from broadband, phone, and other devices.

6. ‘Get Smart’ Network Performance Issues:

Historically, the approach for handling performance issues, such as system-wide capacity, was to upgrade to the next generation of technology such as 10, 100 or 1,000 Gigabit Ethernet. Going forward, application of intelligence like AI, ML, and Software-defined networks and network virtualization will make solving of the issues efficient.
